A surgeon dealing with the terminal illness of her own son performs a routine appendectomy on a young Black man from an impoverished neighborhood who dies on the operating table. His grandmother seeks accountability and, through a series of encounters, both Black mothers journey along parallel pathways of grief and guilt.
